What You Should Know about A Face Lift (Rhytidectomy Procedure)
Loose skin and excess fat around the neck, often referred to as the double chin or “turkey” neck, can make you lose confidence in your appearance.
You might have visible signs of aging on your face and neck too, like deepening fold lines, lack of volume, or sagging jowls.
The good news is that there is a cosmetic procedure that can tighten, tone, and restore the youthful contours of your face.
What is a Face Lift Surgery?
A facelift (rhytidectomy), is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck. It can help tighten loose skin and remove sagging, fix your double chin, and boost those youthful contours you once had years ago.
Your fold and smile lines are no more, and the sags around your eyebrows and loose folds along the eyes are lifted. You will look brighter and younger instantly from your facelift.
How Does a Rhytidectomy Work?
Losing contours in the face occurs for numerous reasons, including thinning skin, loss of facial fat, losing weight too fast, sun damage, gravity, smoking, and genetics.
A rhytidectomy works by creating incision lines along the natural creases of the face and extends into the hairline as well as behind the ear. The muscle and fibrous attachments under the skin are then sutured tightly upfront and behind the ear to lift and re-contour the face.
The procedure is conducted in a hospital, and general anesthesia is administered for patient safety and comfort. You may be advised to stay overnight for recovery and monitoring, but you can go home the next day for rest.
Who Will Benefit from a Face Lift?
The ideal candidate for a facelift is an individual who has sagging face and neck skin, but still, retains some elasticity in the skin. Also, you need a well-defined bone structure.
Most candidates for a facelift are between 40 and 60 years old. However, some in their 70s and 80s have successfully undergone this procedure too. The goal is to achieve a younger, cheerful, and natural look.
Knowing What a Rhytidectomy Service Cannot Do
While there are plenty of ways a rhytidectomy helps, you must also understand the limitations of a face lift procedure. This surgical alteration is ideal when the lower face and jawline are causing an issue. If you have significant forehead or eye wrinkles, then you may benefit more from a brow lift or laser resurfacing. A face lift cannot address these areas.
What to Expect After Your Face Lift at U Eye Laser Cosmetic
Recovery from your facelift will involve the use of bandages to minimize bruising and swelling. You will need to keep the bandages in place for one to two days, and in a week your sutures are removed. Bruising will be mild, and numbness around the ears and cheeks are normal. You must avoid strenuous activity, massage, or hot saunas for two weeks.
While a facelift cannot freeze time, it will take years off. You will look much younger than you did before, but be aware that as you continue to age, your face may start to sag once again.
