Facial Fat Grafting
As we age, it’s natural for our faces to lose some of the natural roundness and fullness of our youth. The fat we store in our faces helps us look younger and keeps the skin tighter and looking brighter. When we get older, that fat begins to disappear, the hollows in our face become more prominent and our skin starts to sag and show wrinkles.
Before the procedure begins, you are put under sedation and anesthetic is applied to the donor site and face to minimize discomfort. During a fat grafting procedure, also known as a micro fat injection or fat transplant procedure, fat cells are taken from areas of your body where there is excess. This may include your abdomen, thighs, or buttocks. These cells are then purified and injected into the areas of your face where you need added dimension, such as your undereye, facial lines, and your lips. This results in a natural, aesthetically pleasing effect that turns back the clock on your face.
Expectations and Considerations
As with any cosmetic procedure, there are considerations to be taken into account before undergoing surgery.
- Have Realistic End Goals
You aren’t going to look the same as you did when you were a teenager. But, you will undoubtedly look younger. Go into the procedure with reasonable expectations and discuss these with your surgeon. They will be able to tell you whether or not what you’re looking for is achievable through fat grafting, and help you get a clearer understanding of how the finished result will look.
- You May Need Multiple Procedures
Some of the transferred fat may die, resulting in unevenness, or not enough fullness where you want it to be. This can require one or more follow-up appointments to correct, depending on how your body handles each transfer. Each patient is different, as is each procedure.
- Ensure Your Surgeon Has Experience with Facial Fat Injections
You want to make sure that you avoid overfilling. Having too much fat transferred into your face at one time can result in an excessively plumped and stuffed look where it is apparent that you have had something done. The surgeons at U Eye Laser Cosmetic are trained and experienced in facial fat grafting to ensure you get a natural, youthful look.
Fat transfer procedures cost more than fillers, but they tend to last much longer. Since you are taking fat from your own body, you are less likely to have a reaction compared to a cosmetic filler. A fat grafting procedure is minimally invasive, and also serves to reduce fat in unwanted areas while restoring it to an area that is lacking.
